  • WWF Wrestlemania: Arcade - by Supreme-Court

    Introduction:

This game was once PSX's best fighting game. So naturally the Super Nintendo version should at least somewhat resemble its bigger brother, right? Well, the keyword here is "resemble". It only "resembles" its PSX brother, but acts nothing like it.

    Graphics [6.5/10]:

All the wrestlers are digitized, yes, but they don't look very good at all. Doink the Clown looks just as tall as the Undertaker? How come the crowd looks empty? there are loads of missing frames of animation from the arcade, also load of missing features in terms of visual presentation. The overall visual is murky...

    Sound & Music [6.5/10]:

Well, give Super Nintendo credit for coming up with so many phrases muttered by Jerry "The King" Lawler. But the music gets extremely repetitive in game. Despite all the different phrases Lawler can say, somethings are always redundant. Like "Is that legal?" can drive you insane because he says it almost everytime you use your "weapon".

    Gameplay/Fun Factor [6.5/10]:

Being an arcade game, I guess I shouldn't expect a fully-represented wrestling game. This is still an enjoyable game. But the main loser in this is that both Yokozuna and Bam Bam Bigelow are missing. I guess Acclaim simply didn't have enough cartridge space or programming talent to cram in 2 extra wrestlers, but it looks much more like Acclaim discriminated against the Super Nintendo since they were able to cram most of the things in the arcade in to the Genesis version. That's too bad, because Bam Bam Bigelow and Yokozuna were two of my favorite wrestlers in the arcade version. A lot of the standard options are gone too. If you have never played the actual arcade game, then you would feel fine with this game, although the selection of "Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Doink the Clown, Lex Luger, and Razor Ramon" is still a bit too short for even the average fighting fans.

    Conclusion/Overall [7/10]:

Don't ask me how I came up with a 7 even though every other category is a 6.5 or lower. This game captured many aspects of wrestling. Although this game is the worst port of the arcade game, but if you've never played the arcade game then this game would make a very good impression on you. But just don't expect to be impressed by this cart if you've played the arcade version, or any other version for that matter.
